Southern Pine Hills Prescribed Burn Association

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Use Prescribed Fire Safely and Effectively

The Southern Pine Hills Prescribed Burn Association (SPHPBA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), landowner-led organization dedicated to expanding the safe and effective use of prescribed fire across southwest Alabama.

We bring together landowners, natural resource professionals, Certified Burn Managers, conservation organizations, community partners, and individuals who simply want to learn more about prescribed fire. Through education, hands-on training, Learn-to-Burn workshops, and cooperative burning opportunities, we help members safely apply prescribed fire to improve wildlife habitat, restore forest health, reduce hazardous fuels, and sustain productive working lands.

Prescribed fire is one of the most effective and affordable tools available for improving wildlife habitat, reducing wildfire risk, controlling unwanted vegetation, enhancing forest health, and maintaining resilient forests. By sharing knowledge, experience, equipment, and manpower, SPHPBA members work together to build confidence, develop skills, and expand the use of prescribed fire across our region.

No experience is required to join. Whether you own 10 acres or 10,000 acres, have never lit a drip torch, are interested in becoming a Certified Burn Manager, or simply want to learn more about prescribed fire, SPHPBA provides opportunities to learn, participate, and connect with others who share a commitment to responsible land stewardship.

Sponsorships

The Southern Pine Hills Prescribed Burn Association (SPHPBA) invites you to consider becoming a sponsor and supporting prescribed fire efforts across southwest Alabama.

SPHPBA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in June 2025 to help landowners safely, effectively, and cooperatively apply prescribed fire through shared resources, collaboration, and training. Our work increases burn capacity, improves safety, and helps maintain fire-adapted landscapes vital to our region.

Your sponsorship helps cover essential operational costs such as fuel, equipment maintenance, safety gear, and training materials—allowing us to keep prescribed burning accessible without placing a financial burden on landowners.
